<> I left conservative Pennsylvania proud of my progressive openmindedness. I settled in liberal California where woke individuals have been bathing me in speeches like the one in this comic, literally on a weekly basis. They come in social media posts, training classes, casting goals, and casual conversations directly to my face. I don't deny past injustices, nor the residual effects that have lasted decades later, but I also know that I didn't create them. Every time I am glanced at and declared the villian or I am told that my individual point of view is exactly like every other cis white male, I feel that irrational, animal part of my brain turning away, looking for emotional nourishment elsewhere. On those occasions when I feel cornered - when I feel my hard work is gonna be tossed aside for a statistic - I find myself turning indifferent to causes I would have fought for at a younger age. I am familiar enough with this topic to know that many people will invalidate my perspective by declaring me privileged based on my race and sex. They'll contrast my slight discomfort to the horrors of the past. I know my pains are not of the same caliber. I just think there has to be a way to reduce racism and sexism without putting MORE focus on social groups - without creating MORE polarization, competition, resentment, and angst. At least I contributed to the solution by making a mixed baby. ;) To those who didn't get triggered, thanks for letting me explore this topic in a very honest way.
