Morning run to the bosses house home-office with the dog 🐶. Dropped off a few bits and made the most of it being a bit cooler.. trying to fit in exercise as we try to get back to a bit more of normality during these times.  Looking forward to getting back to @horshamparkrun on a Saturday and @horshamjoggers on a Tuesday 🙏🏻 when we are allowed to.

Disaster from running, all my sole from my foot is wrecked! It’s painful and sore. Always wear good socks, worn in running shoes, keep your feet clean and healthy! An absolute blinder of a run today thank to @littlerunnerboyrob & @mattyowls !
Both were very gentleman like & really helped me push my pace! Since lockdown I’ve lost fitness, and every run has just been relaxed, averaging at 10 min/m but today I smashed an average pace of 9:09 min/m and I feel ‘runderful’
My appreciation was show with cake and vegan brownie! 
Cheers lads! 
Now for an omelette & a coffee in my new mug, thank you @myrunningmyway 🥳

RUNNING EASY MAKES HARD RUNNING FEEL WAY EASIER ⬇️

I know I have talked a fair bit on here about easy running and its importance, but there’s more 😅
.
The title of this post sums it up. Running easy 70-80% of the time means that you’ll be able to perform how you want to in the remaining 20-30% (intervals, hills, races etc). If you try and run fast every run, running won’t feel very good and you’ll burn out and/or pick up an injury 🙁
.
Trust me, I know the temptation. I used to run way too fast all the time because I didn’t know otherwise and I thought “if I want to run faster over time…I have to train at a fast pace…right?” Sadly, our bodies can’t handle this. 👇

For example, my easy run pace is often about 1 minute slower than my half marathon pace and over a 1:30 from my 5km pace. This isn’t a golden rule, but it should give an idea of the ballpark to be working in. Some days it’s faster, some days it’s slower, but that’s because (remember this if anything) easy is an EFFORT, not a specific pace. It’s unique to each person and to each run. .
So, run easy to make running easy. You’ll develop consistency, endurance, and your hard runs will be easier 😇

This morning I read an article about goal setting and it got me thinking, how many of you during this time of races being cancelled have still been setting running goals ? And how many of you have found you don’t really need them in your running ? .

In my opinion, I think as runners we normally set a goal every time we lace up our trainers. We have a route / distance / time in mind even when there is no plan. I consider that a goal and every time I come back from a completed run I get a sense of achievement, and I believe that is a mix of the endorphins but also because you have completed what you set out to do. .
.
.
One lesson I have learned during this time is that I enjoy the process of having a goal, and love to have an aim when it comes to my running. I have also learned to keep my running goals realistic. That doesn’t mean to say they are easy and that I won’t have to work for them, but that in running I believe things happen in stages and you constantly chip away at times/ distances which is what I aim to do. .

That is the greatest thing about running,  whether you have a specific goal/aim or are just heading outside to keep your feet moving we are all equal as runners.

.

Hill running! 🏃‍♀️⛰️ I absolutely love running up hills 😊

Yes, it's tough but is so much more satisfying than running on a flat road.

And hill running builds strength and speed like nothing else 💪

Glutes and hamstrings engage uphill, knee joints and quadriceps on the downhills 🦵

What is this stuff falling out the sky??! Oh yeah, lovely refreshing rain!! The mushrooms are especially happy. (Though I might get bored of it fairly quickly if it carries on.) Despite the temp drop, today felt a bit too much like hard work and was quite stop/starty. I think I might have to blame the red wine last night. Maybe.
.
Other news? One little deer watching me (couldn’t get him i’m afraid @atravelling.ant, maybe next time??!) and lots of people out despite it being pretty early. I think I need to start wearing a bell round my neck, like a cat, so people hear me coming! Despite my pounding feet (I’m not dainty), huffing and puffing, and loud “good morning!!!” I nearly scared several walkers half to death. One guy did a proper “wwuuurrgghhh!” when he finally saw me and I had to frantically apologise, I wasn’t even hiding in the roses at this point 😆😆😆

Experimenting with a low heart rate run, mostly trying to hover around the low 140s bpm with a couple of faster segments. Running whilst mindful of HR instead of pace needs getting used to - both strangely frustrating and refreshing at the same time. #running #halfmarathontraining

Running gives me a sense of freedom, time on my own, or time with friends when running together. The opportunity to just enjoy a casual run, or really push myself with an interval or hill session.

My thighs paid no attention to social distancing and I’m sure it wasn’t a pretty sight for anyone behind BUT I’m not running for anyone else’s pleasure only my own and it’s been so hot lately it was nice ...so I think the shorts are here to stay for the summer 😊

This route was harder than Tuesday when I did 8km! Perhaps due to pain in my knees again 😔 but I powered through and the pain did ease eventually so I managed 7km - not shabby at all! 💪🏼 Really getting back into running and enjoying it 😁

Das ist mein Gesicht nach 8x1km Intervallen. Kurz vorm abkratzen. Ja so sieht das aus. Wie das andere machen, nach Intervallen wie frisch aus dem Katalog entsprungen auszusehen, weiß ich nicht. Ich schnaufe wie eine Dampflock. Ich stöhne, weil ich glaube dass mir die Beine wegbrechen und meine Lunge jeden Moment meinem Körper entweicht. Nach der Hälfte der Intervalle denke ich mir meistens 'gut das wird heut nix mehr'. Und dann geht's doch irgendwie. Meistens. Wichtig ist, dass mans probiert, dann weiß man zumindest, dass man alles gegeben hat - und wenns nix wird dann wirds beim nächsten Mal besser.

PHEWWWW...What a relief! This gives me another 5 months to not train at all for the Cardiff half. I started to panic that I wouldn't be in shape for it. First run in about 6 weeks!!! So happy to be back at it, albeit a little rusty.
Every inch of me wanted to run today, not sure if it’s the sunny winter day or what but I just had to give it a go.
Mentally a little scared of pushing myself and causing more damage to my hip, but other than a bit of a niggle it feels ok. Lots of stretching and rolling tonight!
My hopes of running this half marathon aren’t completely lost and I also feel like all of the Alexia Clark training in the interim has really helped keep my strength up and may have even improved the drive in my legs.

Nice trail run around Greens Bush today. The views are spectacular but I mostly miss them as my focus is purely on my footing. If you take your eyes of the trail look out! Today I tried out the Pegasus 36 trail shoes which I had confidence immediately in with their grip in tricky technical sections and was overall very happy with them .

Yesterday, 4-mile run, 20-min skipping intervals and upper body (aka torture) and a 10-mile ride with my bestie which filled me with happiness as I have taken social (media) distancing to extremes and been terrible at keeping up/ in touch with everybody 😪 anyway, I’ve accepted that lockdown = guilt 😶.

Celebrating a day when all runners of all abilities get out and do what they do best all over the world... there's nothing like family... one massive running family! As the quote by Bart Yasso says “I often hear someone say I'm not a real runner. We are all runners, some just run faster than others. I never met a fake runner.” ❤
I pledged 7 miles for Global Running Day ... well because actually that was in my training plan (did I tell you I wrote my training plan Monday night! 😂). Following a rest day yesterday and an impromptu light sesh on Monday I literally bounced out the door with much enthusiasm... tonight's run felt bloody marvellous! OK the fact that it was ten degrees cooler, cloudy and raining may of helped a little... Ahhh whatever it was hands down one of the most comfortable runs I've ran in a little while! I even powered up the hill home with Green Days American Idiot (played twice because it's so good) blasting through my headphones... My poor heart tried to escape at one stage! 😂
Garmin awarded me a Global Running Day Badge at the end of my run - A neat bonus! So I finished Workout Wednesday with a hour of free weights and my sandbag! Ah training life is more satisfying when you have direction - thanks training plan - I believe I've atoned for Monday! 😇
