Valentine's Day always felt a little rough for me.
This time last year, I deactivated my social media for the day because I simply couldn't deal. I missed the feeling of having someone special in my life, I was grieving over a friend whom I lost because I got carried away with my own feelings, and I was envious of those who had someone to celebrate today with. I just couldn't stand to see it. Love & romance often felt like a party that I didn't get invited to.
With some time, reflection, and personal work, I've come to appreciate how many forms "love" takes. Whereas I've often felt like I wasn't qualified, I'm thankful and fortunate to say that I do have a lot to celebrate today; a good family, a solid and diverse group of friends, the past experiences of some truly special relationships, a job that allows and encourages me to indulge my passions every day, and most importantly, a greater and more sincere sense of self-acceptance.
If you're celebrating with someone special today, be it a partner or indeed yourself, I hope you have a great one. I'm mostly writing this as a reminder to myself to keep looking up and moving forward, and hopefully as some encouragement to anyone else who can relate to the sensitivity holidays like today can trigger.
Happy Valentine's Day friends. Here's an Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato.
