Another week down and I cannot thank you all enough for joining me on my classes this past week. INTERMITTENT FASTING: Diets claim that you loose weight by skipping meals or fasting for periods of time from 4 to 48 hours. This is simply one form of behaviour, but there is no magic here. It works only when the total calories eaten is less than the calories burned. Fasting is a normal part of metabolism that allows us to survive without food for up for months with adequate water, vitamins, and minerals. You fast every night while you are sleeping. When you are fasting, your liver forms ketone bodies from fatty acids released from your fat cells and forms glucose from glycogen (starch stored in the liver) and from amino acids obtained by breaking down muscle protein. In the first few days, you break down 75 grams of muscle protein to make glucose. After 10 days your body metabolism adapts further so you break down only 20 grams of muscle protein per day as blood ketones increase and blood sugar goes down. However, blood glucose is not zero. So you continue to break down muscle which inhibits normal immune function so that people dying of starvation actually die of an infection. None of that happens in 4 to 48 hours, so if intermittent fasting works for you be sure to get enough protein and exercise to build or maintain muscle during the diet. Why not try these super easy protein balls, great healthy snack and might even help with those chocolate cravings.. ⠀ 1 cup cashews 1/4 cup coconut 1/4 cup of cocoa or cacao Pinch sea salt 1-2 scoops choc protein powder Blitz all dry ingredients together in blender until a fine brown powder. Place dry ingredients into a separate bowl. 1 cup dates Tbsp rice malt syrup or honey 1-2 tsp coconut oil tsp vanilla extract Splash of almond milk if needed Blitz all wet ingredients then tip dry into wet ingredients and blitz again. Tip: everything into a bowl and use your hands to mix and roll into balls. Optional: you can roll in some extra coconut.

This will help you through difficult times. 8️⃣ Keep challenging yourself...this will help you to acquire new skills. 9️⃣ Stop making excuses...making excuses will lead to procrastination. Planking is one of the best forms of exercise for toned core muscles and hopefully a flatter stomach. I started with the Elbow plank, moved to the high plank and finally the reverse plank. You could also try the side planks. Start holding each plank pose for 30 seconds and gradually move to 2-3minutes per hold. Repeat the entire series 3 times in total.
