Sometimes I get jaded looking for new places to genuinely explore, ones that I haven’t already seen photos of... but my time in Mexico revived the mystery to see around the bend. @jess.wandering and I took a local guy’s recommendation that he knew the most beautiful canyon in the region. That decision led to 10 hrs of river bends, each one with it’s own surprise ending.

Back at my fav tree corridor yesterday with @jess.wandering. Can’t imagine better conditions than sun after snow... we drove in the night before, and stayed at the lodge (highly recommend Wuksachi Lodge) woke up to road closures, and quiet trails. ⛄️

My highlight of 2019 was making and living in this van. From 2013-2019 I didn’t have my own bed... which is what I needed at the time. Not having a place kept me on my toes, and out shooting as a young photographer. But 5+ years of dirtbagging burnt me out, and this year I domesticated. It may not show in my work directly, but adding a Home has provided new room for growth. My happiness is ever evolving. The opposite of happiness is repetition resulting in feeling stagnate. So the best moments of 2019 were not chasing polar bears in the Arctic, or crocodiles in the swamps, but they were the inbetween times, cooking dinner and watching movies in foreign parking lots. Next year I will come up with a new happiness. . . . Side note: I think the dramatic lighting on the toilet is some of my most proud work yet. 💪

If I ever run out of ideas, I’m out of a job. I often doubt myself, and feel like I got lucky a few times, and my best work is behind me. So I’ve started to see inspiration and creativity as limited resources inside of me. But resources that replenish if given proper attention. Sometimes a specific song comes over the radio and instantly sparks an idea, other times I need to build with my hands for a few days (or months), or ride a board. But lately, I’ve been on a movie kick. There’s so many good ones out, but I’ve seen Knives Out 3x and I think it’s my fav of the year. Seeing how others tell stories, makes me fired up to create my own. You guys got any movie recommendations for me? 🏊🏻‍♀️: @jess.wandering Song by: Jon Brion

Life on the Bayou 🏡 I swear this humble fisherman’s dwelling almost passes off as modern architecture. We were this guy’s van neighbor for a few days. He even fed us some of his fresh caught fish one evening. Not sure if I could do the swamp life... but it is meaningful to see simple living and the happiness it brings.

Most interesting bike ride 🥇. Never will forget pedaling over this canyon and seeing our shadows down below. @jess.wandering

We’ve been camped out at this waterfall for the past few days... warm air, cool water, cliff jumping, and droning (more to come on that). Mexico is proving to be better than I remembered. Photo by: @jess.wandering

Have you ever reached the top of a climb and wished there was a zipline down? ... me too. 😁 Watch till the end to see the full exposure. We climbed the ridge from the bottom starting at first light. You can see a tiny car driving on the canyon floor for scale.

I’ve said it before, but it’s worth repeating - Mexico is my fav country for travel. Might not be for everyone tho... There’s a lot that can, and most likely will go wrong. This isn’t an established adventure destination like the Alps or the US parks system. To get here we parked in an obscure neighborhood, dipped under a freeway bridge, and bushwhacked/scrambled up the mountain. But if you’re like me, the added degree of challenge makes it more appealing, and the payoff, much sweeter. @jess.wandering and I crossed into Mexico 3 days ago, and already have some fun stories to tell. Much more to come. 🇲🇽
