A motor sport legend. This 1971 Cosmograph Daytona in yellow gold features a black dial with contrasting champagne-colour counters. The gold bezel has a Plexiglas insert with a tachymetric scale. The distinctive pump pushers on each side of the winding crown and the Oyster bracelet complete the iconic look of this watch.
Calibre 4130’s architecture incorporates fewer components than a standard chronograph, thereby enhancing the movement’s reliability. It also saves space, making it possible to house a large mainspring and delivers a power reserve of 72 hours. The chronograph is engaged by a mechanism with a column wheel and vertical clutch – instead of a lateral one. This enables an instantaneous and extremely precise start to the timing, as well as the smooth running of the chronograph seconds hand for long periods of time.
The Cosmograph Daytona is the ideal instrument for measuring average speeds of up to 400 km/h or mph. The calculation is performed over one kilometre or mile. The driver starts the chronograph when the car passes the starting point and stops it after the car has covered the fixed distance. The arrow-tipped centre hand points to the car’s average speed on the tachymetric scale.
Racing drivers can measure elapsed time on their Cosmograph Daytona by pressing the upper pusher to start and stop timing. Elapsed hours are read on the counter at 9 o’clock, minutes on the counter at 3 o’clock and the seconds are displayed around the edge of the dial by the arrow-tipped centre hand.
The Cosmograph Daytona in a yellow Rolesor version – a combination of Oystersteel and 18ct yellow gold. Featuring a black dial, an 18ct gold bezel with an engraved tachymetric scale, and fitted with an Oyster bracelet.
The platinum version of the Cosmograph Daytona features an ice blue dial and a Cerachrom bezel in chestnut brown ceramic. The tachymetric scale’s moulded numerals and graduations are coated with platinum, ensuring excellent legibility when reading average speeds.
